The folks at MarketShare took a look at the total amount of sales driven by Twitter in 2013. The results were surprising, even to those who have been singing the praises of Twitter for years. MarketShare found that Twitter drove an astounding $716 million in sales for major automakers. These sales were the result of Twitter ads, brand mentions, TV advertising amplification and organic twitter messaging. How did it break down? For luxury auto sellers, they earned an average of $17.80 on every dollar spent. Those selling mid-sized cars also reported a healthy return of $7.09 for every dollar spent. When asked to comment, the head of Twitter’s auto vertical said, “With over 65,000 daily tweets about purchasing or researching a new car, Twitter gives auto brands the unique opportunity to connect with an audience of in-market shoppers who have expressed intent to buy a car.”
